RODERKUS WRIGHT
(Ex-Oregon/Grossmont JC, CA)
6050, 270 pounds, 4.65
PROFILE:
Try not to laugh when you read these stats, but keep
reading to better understand how they came about… 65
tackles, 45 tackles for loss, 26.5 sacks, 66 QB hurries,
five blocked kicks, five forced fumbles, five fumble
recoveries and four pass breakups in 13 JC contests
this year… games reviewed include San Jacinto, Victor
Valley, Antelope Valley, College of the Canyons and
City College of San Francisco; many of which he only
played into the early portion of the second half…
He was originally recruited to Oregon, as one of the
team's top high school prospects, even started several
games early in his career… had 16 tackles, four sacks
and two forced fumbles, as a sophomore; watch his performance
against USC and first-ever game versus Idaho… was also
athletic enough to play on several special teams, including
kickoff coverage… struggled with both academics and
off-field issues, as he learned to start maturing while
being away from his home in California…
Having grown up with several distractions and issues
surrounding him, Wright took a brief detour to Portland
State, which did not workout, but finally made a way
for himself at the JC level this season… even helped
lead his team to the mythical JC National Championship…
at times this season he looked like a professional playing
against high school level blockers…
Wright has an amazing wingspan to go along with terrific
natural athleticism and rare speed for a player of his
size… plays with good pad level and leverage... still
raw at times, but has shown great maturity over the
past 18 months our staff has spoken with him… which
was never more evident than by one of his recent statements,
"Right now my only goal is to help win this title, so
we can send our coach (Dave Jordan) home with a much-deserved
championship"…
He has grown into his roughly 6050, 270-pound frame,
nearly 20 pounds heavier than he was back in 2001… has
hit between 37.5"-40" on the vertical, while also being
timed between the mid-4.6-to-early-4.7 range in the
40… now plans take the path less traveled to the NFL,
as he has starting training since the end of his season…
will turn 24 years-old in late March of 2006... could
this be the next Eric Swann… only time will tell…
